Non-working holiday due to SONA 2005
Friday, July 22, 2005My officemate got a text message from her sister after our lunch break saying that Monday, July 25 is a non-working holiday. We asked, “But why??” Then we thought, could it be because of the SONA on Monday? hmm.. To satisfy our curiosity, we of course searched the net for the latest in the news but couldn’t find any.
We waited, and at 2:45, I finally got this from INQ7.net:

MALACAÑANG has declared Monday, July 25, a special non-working day in Metro Manila.
Monday is the opening of the second regular session of Congress.
In Proclamation No. 880, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the day was declared a non-working day “to encourage and give opportunity to Filipinos to listen to the [State of the Nation] address of the President and be involved in the affairs of the country.”
My officemate said that in the previous years, work is not suspended due to SONA. I wonder what’s the difference for this year.
I guess we’ll see on Monday.
Anyhoo, happy long weekend everyone!
