Bex and Lei Reunion

Friday, January 27, 2006

After several months of not seeing each other, (me busy at work, Bex busy at school + Mark + work), Bex and I are finally able to meet again!

We met last Thursday night, 12-January-2006 at Gateway and had dinner at Cibo. We ate Telefono (pasta) and the Number 11 pizza (forgot the name! :D ) The pasta was superb, with the mozarella melting in our mouths.. Yum!

Hope to meet up with my recently engaged friend soon. ;)

[edit: please forgive my typo error, I wrote Cibu instead of Cibo :( ]

Hail King Kong! Eight Wonder of the World

Wednesday, January 25, 2006

After watching the latest remake of King Kong by Peter Jackson, I joked that the 3-hour film can be summarized as such: first 30 minutes at the city, 1 hour for the sea voyage, another hour for the adventure in Skull Island, and the remaining 30 minutes back at the city and King Kong’s death. (What?!? Did I spoil the movie for you? :p)

Even so, I found the movie quite enjoyable. One would not notice the hours go by with the excitement filled film. But here are some of my thoughts on the movie:

1. I didn’t like Jack Black before, and I didn’t like him any less in this movie. I guess he really is a good actor to evoke enmity from me. I just hated his character! Anyway, after watching the School of Rock recently, I learned to like Jack Black a bit. :p

It’s time for the “Big Time”

Thursday, January 19, 2006

Last Monday, Teddy and I attended the premier showing of Big Time at the Podium. Thanks to  Vives Anunciacion, the Assistant Director for the invites. :)  Apparantly, Vives is a fan on Beerkada, and therefore invited Lyndon. Aside from the invitation, we were given Big Time shirts and nachos during the event. :) Thanks again Vives!

That’s right, for those who missed the deadline last January 6, 2006 for the King Kong Contest, you can still win that merchandise because the deadline has been extended up to January 18, 2006! So if you haven’t seen King Kong because of the MMFF stint, go run to the cinemas now, and post what you think of the movie in your i.ph blog. Then place a comment at http://moviefan.i.ph with the URL of your movie review, and what you want to watch next. Who knows? They might sponsor a contest again next time. Narnia perhaps? *wink*

Isaac Asimov Fanatic

Wednesday, January 4, 2006

I consider myself to be a voracious reader. But of all the books I have read, it was Isaac Asimov that got me pretty hooked up to his writings. (I think he has a very yummy mind.) Anyway, it was my friend Mima who first introduced me to Asimov and his Foundation novels, then his robot novels. From then on, I tried to get my hands on all of Asimov’s writings. Believe it or not, he’s not only a science fiction writer but a writer of humor and jokes as well (he said it himself.)

Upon further research, I found out that based on a chronological time line (and not when the books were published), I should read the following Asimov novels in this order:

1. The Complete Robot Stories (1982) - 31 robot stories, including I, Robot
2. Caves of Steel (1954) - 1st robot novel
3. Naked Sun (1957) - 2nd robot novel
4. Robots of Dawn (1983) - 3rd robot novel
5. Robots and Empire (1985) - 4th robot novel

6. Currents of space (1952) - 1st empire novel
7. Stars Like Dust (1951) - 2nd empire novel
8. Pebble in the Sky (1950) - 3rd empire novel

9. Prelude to Foundation (1988) - 1st foundation novel
10. Foundation (1951) - 2nd foundation novel
11. Foundation & Empire (1952) - 3rd foundation novel
12. Second Foundation (1953) - 4th foundation novel
13. Foundation’s Edge (1982) - 5th foundation novel
14. Foundation and Earth (1983) - 6th foundation novel

Thanks to Jinky, I am now currently reading The Gods Themselves (book review later). She also gave me Nemesis. I have stricken from the list above books that I have read. If any of you are thinking of giving me a gift any time soon, an Asimov creation would be greatly appreciated. ;)

King Kong Merchandise up for Grabs!

Monday, January 2, 2006

Last Christmas eve and Christmas morning, Teddy spent them with me and my family. I guess it’s only fitting that I spend New Year’s lunch with his family. :)

New Year’s Eve, a lot of people in our area were lighting fireworks and firecrackers like crazy, hours before midnight! The excitement was too much to bear so we joined in. We also lighted Prosperity Candles and incense sticks. The lavander candle burned the quickest, followed by the red one. So that’s wealth, then love.

What has that got to do with free King Kong stuff? If you have watched the latest King Kong film by Peter Jackson last December, all you need to do is write your reaction to the movie, whether good, or bad. Did you like it? Or did you find it uninteresting? Then put your reaction in your own i.ph blog on or before January 6, 2006 (only four days away!!!).

After blogging about your King Kong experience, visit moviefan’s blog and leave your details. More details on the click above so click now!

Happy New Year everyone and always keep tuned to the Beerkada Universe!!!
